Somewhere in South America this past weekend, everyone who loves music lost a dear friend. The blonde Tasmanian devil from Laguna Beach that tore through life and ultimately joined his idols, passed way too soon, leaving us all with lifelong questions and scars. The massive outpouring from musicians and artists worldwide upon learning of his death is testament to his incredible life both on and off the stage, with all repeating the exact same sentiments regarding who he was. Incredibly talented, genuine and one of the nicest people you’d ever meet. His love of all music was the validated by the range of artists he touched, each expressing their shock and a shared perspective of just being incredibly sad and collectively mourning a huge loss for the planet earth. Personally, I am honestly still trying to grip the reality of a world without him in it and can do nothing but memorialize him the only way I know how, with my favorite moments of this remarkable human being. Taylor Hawkins was one of the many reasons this band is my undisputed favorite, and I am so thankful I was alive to experience his existence.

“This is really bad news. Taylor was a force of life, with a forward momentum that seemed unstoppable. All energy and cheerful enthusiasm. It’s inconceivable that he is gone.”

“He was, my wife called him, sunshine in human form. He was the most wonderful man and I can’t quite believe that I’m not going to see him again.“
—Roger Taylor, Queen

“Tearing through the room like an F5 tornado of hyperactive joy was Taylor Hawkins, my brother from another mother, my best friend, a man from whom I would take a bullet. Upon first meeting, our bond was immediate, and we grew closer with every day, every song, every note that we played together.”

Take a second. Think of your favorite days on earth. The ones that will never leave you, even after you die. This was one of mine.
